LIIAR Analysis of the Grimsby institute magazine!

Language – The front page of the Grimsby institute is very different to the east riding college magazine as it more exciting and not simple and also it appeals to teenagers more.  The masterhead used in the GX magazine is very large and eye catching its simple but also effective as it stands out. The masterhead is conventional as it has been aligned in the top right hand corner of the page. Also the name of the masterhead “GX” is very effective as it appeals to teenagers as it is slang phrased and also is short and snappy. This is aimed for the college’s target audience of 16 to 19 years. It also has a continues house style of blue and white this is quite plan and bland and could use a brighter colour then white as this wont stand out from other college magazines. The text on the front cover is hard to read against the grey background and makes it difficult for readers to see. The picture of the two college students in a comic, animation style is very good as it shows the audience that it is aimed at teenagers and also gives a cool and fun edge to the college.

The contents page of the Grimsby magazine is a lot better structured to the east riding magazine. The pictures on the contents page is very good as it has bordering round them but not too thick and plain. But the bordering isn’t in the same house style as the front page but the writing is the same font as the front page. The writing in the contents box is in the same house style as the front page. The language on the contents page is been wrote in a more teenager way with slang words and phrase this it give it a more teenagers edge and aim to there audience. Also the pictures on the contents page have captions to describe what the picture is about.

Ideology – The ideology of the Grimsby institute magazine is to show they target audience how good and different the college and also to show that the college is a good working environment at the Grimsby institute. It also shows existing students to show that the students are happy and educated.  The message that college magazine shows is that they want a good reputation with parents and new students and also showing there understand teenagers they do this by using slang words and phrase and picture of cool teenagers in animation. I think that the ideology of the Grimsby college magazine is to make students enjoy they college life and that the college is full off exciting and new things to be discovered. This magazine draws you in with young style aimed for teenagers. They will also want to put across social issues such as drinking and drug taking and telling students the dangers of them.

Institution - The institution of this magazine is Grimsby institute, it will be aimed and designed for 16-20 year olds who might be considering going to college after they’ve finished school, this magazine represent Grimsby college in a good way as it the magazine is filled with colour, and the text is aimed for teenagers and has a lot on unique points in my opinion.

Audience – The audience of the Grimsby institute college magazine is for 16 – 20 year olds who are thinking of starting college or already in college but thinking of moving to a different college. This would be new students and existing students.

Representation – The Grimsby institute magazine does meet up to the standards of existing college magazine, this is because the masthead is in the conventional position and it also is eye catching and grabs your attention and also the image is in a young style to target the audience.
