Target audience using pyschographics and demographics.

Target Audience
To help me choose my target audience for my college magazine i will be using pyschographics and demographics.

Demographics
Demographics are types of audiences been put into groups based on they age, profession, social class and income. They are 6 different types of groups:
A - higher managerial, administrative or professional.
B - intermediate managerial, administrative or professional.
C1 - supervisory or clerical, junior managerial, administrative or professional.
C2 - semi-skilled manual workers.
D - semi-skilled and unskilled manual workers.
E- casual labourers, unemployed and state pensioners.

For my target audience i would my college to aim for As, Bs and Es as i would want high graded and educated students to come to my college and give it a good reputation and also help them succeed in a good career and for the Es is where all students fall into, so i would need students to come to my college.

Gender & age Demographics
Age demographics falls into 5 groups
  • 15 and under
  • 15 - 24
  • 24 - 35
  • 35 - 55
  • 55 and over
For my college my target audience would come under the age group of 15 - 24 as most students are this age, most college students start at the age of 16 and end around about the age of 19. but i would want my magazine to aim at high school students so there know what college there want to go once they leave high school.

Pyschographics
Pyschographics is a system that is used to measure consumer and audience beliefs and interest. there are four groups in this system which are :
  • Groups driven by needs
  • Groups who are outer-directed
  • Groups who are inner-directed
  • Groups who are outer and inner directed
For my college magazine i would want my target audience to be part of all these groups as it will aim to a large audience of different individuals and that would be good for my college.
